Recipe of the Day: Cinnamon Biscuits

These cinnamon biscuits are cozy yet versatile treats, and are made with basic ingredients found in most cupboards.

The weekend is here so you finally have some extra time, hopefully, to spend some creative time in the kitchen to make some cinnamon biscuits that should last you through your next busy week!

Fortunately most households have these ingredients on hand so you should be able to avoid long lines at the supermarket and get straight to baking.

This recipe makes around 80 biscuits.

Cinnamon Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2½ cups olive oil
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • Approximately 1 kg all-purpose flour (as needed)
  • 2 tbsp raw brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup toasted sesame seeds

Instructions:

First, place the sugar and olive oil in a large bowl and mix them together with a whisk.

Add the wine, cinnamon, and cloves, and dissolve the baking soda in the orange juice.

Pour this into the mixture, along with the zest and sesame seeds.

Mix well with the whisk to combine all the ingredients.

Sift the flour with the baking powder.

Add half of the flour, knead, and gradually add the rest until the dough becomes pliable and doesn’t stick to your hands.

Do not knead the dough for too long, as this will make it tough.

Shape the dough into braids.

Place the them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and sprinkle with the brown sugar.

Bake at 170°C with a fan for 25-30 minutes, and afterwards enjoy your cinnamon biscuits!
