At least 10 people were killed and 30 injured when a vehicle drove into a large crowd early Wednesday in New Orleans in what authorities called a mass-casualty incident.

New Orleans’s emergency preparedness campaign said the incident happened on Canal and Bourbon Street in the French Quarter.

The injured have been taken to at least five different hospitals.

New Orleans’s French Quarter is a popular tourist destination for events such as Mardi Gras and New Year’s Eve.
