Russian President Vladimir Putin today threatened attacks on decision-making centers in Kyiv using Russia’s new medium-range ballistic missile, the Oreshnik.
According to Putin, Russia is targeting locations in Ukraine that may include “decision-making centers” in Kyiv as retaliation for long-range strikes on Russian territory carried out by Ukraine using Western-supplied weaponry.
So far, Russian strikes have not targeted government buildings in the Ukrainian capital. Kyiv remains heavily shielded by air defenses, but Putin claims that the Russian hypersonic Oreshnik missile—first launched at a Ukrainian city last week—cannot be intercepted.
“We will, of course, respond to the continued strikes on Russian territory with Western-made long-range missiles. As previously stated, this may include further battlefield testing of the Oreshnik, as was done on November 21,” Putin said during a meeting of the security alliance of former Soviet states in Kazakhstan, as reported by The Guardian.
“Currently, the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff are selecting targets for strikes on Ukrainian territory. These could include military facilities, defense and industrial enterprises, or decision-making centers in Kyiv,” Vladimir Putin added.
Scandinavian countries have recently updated and distributed a “Crisis or War Guide” to their citizens. Germany has taken the matter much more seriously, as the country’s Interior Ministry has compiled a list of facilities that could serve as shelters. According to the Interior Ministry, the list includes subway stations, parking garages, state-owned buildings, and even private properties.
