U.S. President Donald Trump commented on Truth Social that he had engaged in “very good and productive discussions” with Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine on Thursday, March 13, 2025, and the proposed Ukraine ceasefire.
The U.S. President expressed optimism about the possible outcome of the talks, stating there is a “very good chance” that the conflict may soon come to an end. He also highlighted the precarious situation of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers encircled by Russian forces, urging Putin to “save their lives” to prevent a “horrible massacre” reminiscent of the worst events of World War II.
This development coincides with ongoing negotiations for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for an “unconditional” ceasefire, accusing Putin of complicating the negotiation process. The Group of Seven (G7) nations have warned of further sanctions against Russia if it does not agree to the ceasefire, urging Moscow to accept terms on an equal footing and fully commit to its implementation.
Despite these diplomatic efforts, concerns remain regarding Russia’s intentions. Some analysts believe that Putin may still aim to assert control over Ukraine, and U.S. intelligence agencies have expressed skepticism about his commitment to ending the war, suggesting he might be seeking to rest and regroup Russian troops.
