US President Donald Trump said on Monday he will impose an additional 50% tariff on China if Beijing does not withdraw its retaliatory tariffs on America, according to Reuters.
“Additionally, all talks with China concerning their requested meetings with us will be terminated! Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately,” Trump posted on the Truth Social platform.
Stock markets in the United States opened sharply lower after indices across Asia and Europe were down, as the shockwaves from Trump’s tariffs continue to be felt globally.
He also threatened to add an additional 50 percent tariff on China and end negotiations if Beijing does not withdraw its retaliatory measures.
