U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his desire to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran, during an interview with Fox News on Friday.
Trump revealed that he had sent a letter to its leadership on Thursday, urging them to engage in talks.
“I said I hope you’re going to negotiate because it’s going to be a lot better for Iran,” Trump told Fox Business Network, which aired on Friday.
He suggested that Iranian officials would be receptive to the letter, adding, “I think they want to get that letter. The other alternative is we have to do something because you can’t let another nuclear weapon.”
The letter appeared to be addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The White House did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding its contents or recipient.
