Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a phone contact with King Abdullah II of Jordan and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani with the developments in Syria taking center stage.
The Prime Minister reiterated Greece’s support for the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Syria, emphasizing the need to protect all religious minorities in the country.
Earlier on Friday, the Greek Premier chaired a session of the National Security Council and discussed the Syrian crisis. The body decided to temporarily suspend asylum procedures for Syrian refugees in Greece, approximating 9,000, according to data, falling in line with 15 other EU countries.
As government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis told the press corps: “Greece carefully weighs all developments, monitors the dynamic situation in the region, and adjusts its stance on migration and refugee matters in line with evolving conditions and the decisions of EU bodies.”
