Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis is in Paris participating in the International Conference on Syria, following an invitation from France.
Diplomatic sources stress the participation of the country’s Foreign Affairs Minister reaffirms Greece’s strong diplomatic footprint and its role as a reliable interlocutor with all parties.
Gerapetritis’s participation comes on the heels of his Middle East tour, during which he visited Qatar, Israel, Ramallah, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Syria.
Among others, the conference will include representatives from the G7 member states (France, Germany, United Kingdom, United States, Japan, Italy, Canada), Spain, Turkey, Syria, member states of the Arab League, countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the UN Special Envoy for Syria, and the EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica.
The conference is expected to address the challenges facing Syria in the aftermath of the fall of the Assad regime and explore ways to support the country’s stabilization process. The meeting in Paris aims to allow neighboring countries and international partners to coordinate their actions effectively.
The key objectives of the conference include coordinating efforts to promote a peaceful and inclusive political transition in Syria and mobilizing Syria’s key partners to intensify cooperation and synchronize their support for the Syrian people and economy, with a focus on the country’s development and reconstruction.
