A car has plowed into a crowd of people in the city of Mannheim, Germany, reportedly killing two people and injuring 25 more. A journalist from the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) news agency stated that they saw multiple individuals lying on the ground, though it remains unclear whether they were injured or deceased.

Police have urged residents to avoid the city center due to a large-scale law enforcement operation.

The German newspaper BILD reports that a driver crashed into a crowd of pedestrians near the Galeria Kaufhof shopping center. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the incident was an accident or a deliberate attack. Several people were injured, some seriously, according to the report.

Police are monitoring all roads and bridges leading out of the city, while a helicopter is circling over Mannheim, BILD added.

On Monday, local officials posted on X (formerly Twitter), warning residents to avoid a “large area” in Mannheim. A police spokesperson initially declined to provide further details on the situation.
