Unstable weather conditions are expected to prevail across much of the country today, with local rainfall, sporadic thunderstorms, and snowfall in northern mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. Forecasters are also warning of an impending cold front that will bring a sharp drop in temperatures and snow even in lowland areas of northern Greece.

According to the latest meteorological data, localized showers and isolated thunderstorms will affect western Greece, the north, and parts of the eastern Aegean. By midday and into the afternoon, these phenomena will extend to the rest of the mainland and Crete. Toward the evening, weather conditions are expected to worsen in the northeast, with snowfall occurring at higher altitudes.

In Attica, partly cloudy skies will dominate, occasionally becoming more overcast. Winds will be westerly at 3 to 5 Beaufort, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 19°C.

In Thessaloniki, increasing cloud cover is expected, with local rainfall developing in the afternoon. Winds will be north-northwesterly at 3 to 5 Beaufort, strengthening to 6 Beaufort later in the day. Temperatures will range between 6°C and 17°C — ahead of a sharp decline overnight.

Snowfall Expected in Western Macedonian Cities

Meteorologist Kostas Lagouvardos, Director of Research at the National Observatory of Athens, has emphasized that snow is expected even in the cities of Western Macedonia from Sunday night into Monday. He underlined a significant shift in weather patterns, driven by the arrival of cold air masses from the north. “We expect a rapid temperature drop starting Sunday night, especially across Macedonia and Thrace,” Lagouvardos noted.

Meteo.gr data supports this outlook, indicating that a cold front will push frigid air over the country, bringing a temperature drop of up to 10–12°C in some areas. The shift is forecast to begin late Sunday and intensify on Monday, April 7, marking the onset of a brief but impactful cold spell.
