Disruptions are expected at nine regional airports in Greece due to scheduled reconstruction of runways as part of a third phase of upgrade works, airport managing company Fraport Greece announced this week.
More specifically, the airports of Zakynthos (ZTH), Kavala (KVA), Kefalonia (EFL), Corfu (CFU), Mykonos (JMK), Santorini (JTR), Samos (SMI), Rhodes (RHO), and Mitilini (MJT) will not be handling commercial or private flights.
Airport operations will be temporarily suspended at:
– Samos airport: Nov. 5-25
– Lesvos airport: – every Tuesday from 00:01 to 23:59 local time starting on Nov. 15 to March 25, 2025

During the dates above, helicopters will be carrying out emergency flights (e.g. ambulance helicopters for patients’ airlifts, search and rescue, fire-fighting, humanitarian, government and other national flights) if necessary.
All other airport services inside the terminals will be available.
“We acknowledge that the suspension of runway operations may present challenges for travel and transportation within the local communities… The aim is to further enhance the high level of safety,” Fraport Greece said in a statement, adding that “regulatory compliance and safety at all levels” were key priorities.
The upgrade works are part of Fraport’s concession agreement and financed by RRF funds.
