The Greek passport is among the Top 6 most powerful in the world granting visa-free access to 189 countries and territories worldwide out of a 227 total, according to the 2025 Henley Passport Index released on Wednesday.

The Greek passport held the same position in the 2024 edition of the Henley Global Mobility Report.

The most powerful passport overall is Singapore’s allowing visa-free access to 195 destinations followed by Japan’s in second place and those of Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, and Spain in third.

The Henley Passport Index ranks the world’s 199 passports according to the number of destinations they enable visa-free access to based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Among the biggest fallers were the passports of the United States and the UK. The US passport plummeted seven places from 2nd in 2015 to 9th position in 2025. The British passport which topped the index in 2015, dropped to 5th spot in 2025.

The best improvement was the passport of China, which moved up from 94th place in 2015 to 60th in 2025.

Last on the Henley index is the passport of Afghanistan at 106th spot allowing access to 26 destinations. Others include the passports of Syria (105), Iraq (104), Yemen and Pakistan (103), and Somalia (102).

Commenting on the latest political instability, Christian H. Kaelin, Chairman of Henley & Partners and the inventor of the index underlines the need to introduce “Free Global Cities”, which he said, will “harness the untapped potential of displaced people and other migrants, transforming them from victims of circumstance into architects of their own futures has never been more pressing or apparent”.
