American Airlines US Flights Restored After Groundstop

A technical glitch caused major disruption for thousands of travelers in the US on Christmas Eve after American Airlines halted all flights.

American Airlines said it had resumed service after the company halted its flights across the United States earlier on Tuesday citing a system-wide technical issue. The outage left thousands of passengers stranded on Christmas Eve, one of the busiest travel days of the year.

The airlines said in an updated statement that a “vendor technology issue” was responsible for the issue and that it has “been resolved and flights have resumed.”

“It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible,” American said.

Earlier on Tuesday, an airline spokesperson confirmed that a “technical issue” was affecting the company’s flights on Tuesday morning. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers,” they said.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a nationwide ground stop at the airline’s request, citing the technical failure.

Meanwhile, travelers shared stories on social media describing delays and chaos.

The disruption, sent American Airlines’ stock down by almost 3% in premarket trading.

Travelers who have booked with American Airlines are advised to contact the airline for further updates.
