Passenger traffic at the Athens International Airport (AIA) amounted to 2.49 million during April 2024, marking a 16.3% increase compared to April 2023 levels, according to an announcement by the AIA. The data showed domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded last year’s figures by 4.1% and 21.7%, respectively.

During the first four months of the year, airport traffic reached 7.7 million passengers, marking an increase of 16.5%. Both domestic and international passenger traffic showed increases of 8.4% and 20.2% respectively.

The number of flights at Athens International Airport during the first four months of 2024 amounted to 67,447, recording a 13.5% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023. Both domestic and international flights saw an increase of 5.9% and 19.3% respectively compared to 2023.

Travel receipts increased by 22.2% in February 2024 and 24.5% in the January-February 2024 period, according to the Bank of Greece (BoG). Inbound tourist arrivals increased by 26.0% in February 2024 and 20.7% between January and February 2024, with tourists reaching 1.458 million in the first two months, compared to 1.208 million in the same period of 2023.

Travel from eurozone countries increased by 33.4%, while travel from EU-27 countries outside the eurozone was up by 46.4%. Travel from Germany increased by 25.4% to 132.7 thousand travelers, while travel from France decreased by 9.1% to 69.9 thousand travelers. Regarding countries outside the EU-27, travel from the United Kingdom decreased by 34.7% to 64.6 thousand travelers, while travel from the United States increased by 158.4% to 95.7 thousand travelers. Finally, there was no travel from Russia.
