The latest “bucket list” of the world’s best beaches, this one published by the influential Tripadvisor platform, includes two Greek beaches in its Top Ten.
This year’s Tripadvisor list also takes a beach’s “sustainability” into account.
The first of the two spots in Greece which garnered top marks from Tripadvisor users is Galissas Beach on the central Cycladic island of Syros – a destination often overlooked by foreign holiday-makers, who prefer the better-known isles of Mykonos, Santorini, Paros and Naxos.
The platform ranks this sheltered bay on the island’s western coast fifth on the list.
“Set in a cove between high cliffs, it is a great spot for snorkeling with calm shallow waters that travellers say allow you to stay only waist-deep a long way out. Visitors mention its clean, clear waters as well as good accessibility for people with disabilities,” is the description given.
Then, coming in at seventh place, is Myrtos Beach on the Ionian island of Cephalonia. Tripadvisor describes the location as “…Surrounded by tall marble cliffs and looking out onto the azure waters of the Myrtos Gulf, this stunning beach makes for a dramatically breathtaking sight.”
