The tourism season in Greece is set to expand well into the later months of fall this year.
September is experiencing very high occupancy rates, with October also performing well in popular tourist destinations such as the islands of the South Aegean, where hotel bookings are reaching up to 70%.
Demand remains strong, with tourists from Germany and the UK continuing to visit Greece. The positive momentum for October is reaffirmed by the relevant data of INSETE’s Airdata tracker that indicate an increase of a 6.2% in planned flights compared to the same period last year.
Flights from Germany account for 622,000 seats in October, with flights from the UK reaching 590,000 seats.
What is more, some Dodecanese islands, such as Rhodes and Kos, as well as Crete are seeing their bookings being extended until November 15.
The picture is also more than satisfactory in the southwestern Peloponnese, with the Costa Navarino luxury hotel complex attracting visitors to the region right until the end of November.
The president of the Institute of Tourism Research and Forecasts notes that this year has seen an extension of the season by about 10 days in the South Aegean, with bookings continuing until November 9-10, for hotels still operating. She attributes this trend to the favorable weather and the more affordable travel options during this period.
Major German and British tour operators, including Alltours, Tui, and Jet2.com are contributing to this trend, extending flight offerings to popular Mediterranean destinations until November.
Alltours, for example, offers packages for Crete until November 24 and Rhodes until November 9, with direct flights from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, or Munich.
