The Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, and her counterpart, Maltese Clayton Bartolo, signed a memorandum of tourism cooperation between Greece and Malta during a special ceremony held in Valletta on the sidelines of the 7th Mediterranean Tourism Forum.
According to the official announcement issued after the agreement’s signing, a common action plan was agreed upon to achieve the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding.
This plan includes various initiatives:
• Institutional collaboration
• Exchange of information and expertise
• Information dissemination regarding tourism investments
• Tourism promotion
• Professional tourism education and training
• Collaboration within international organizations related to tourism
The announcement highlighted cultural and religious tourism, maritime, gastronomic, wedding and wine tourism, as well as movie-related tourism as the main areas of specific interest that can be leveraged for mutual learning and collaborations.
Additionally, within the framework of the 7th Mediterranean Tourism Forum, tourism ministers from nine Mediterranean countries agreed to collectively work towards sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean region.
Ministers from Malta, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Libya, Italy, Palestine, and Spain reached this agreement at the end of the ministerial summit of the Mediterranean Tourism Forum held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
The ministers agreed to enhance their cooperation to promote the interests of the Mediterranean region within the United Nations World Tourism Organization promoting sustainability across all aspects of the tourism sector.
