The Greek Island of Rhodes will acquire a direct flight connection with Bahrain via Gulf Air, the flag carrier of the Kingdom, as the Dodecanese island’s Municipality announced.
The direct air connection between Rhodes and Bahrain is a project of particular value and significance, the announcement read, as it places the island of the Knights, as it is known, among the main destinations of the national airline of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
In addition, the new route realizes one of the goals of the Municipality of Rhodes for the expansion and promotion of one of Greece’s largest islands as a unique tourist destination in new markets, this time in Asia, in collaboration with PROTUR (Rhodes Tourism Promotion), the South Aegean Region, and the tourism stakeholders of the region.
After opening to South Korea and India, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates are next in line, with high-income visitors, following in the path the Gulf Air airline opened, which, having a 40-year presence in Greece, is also expanding to other popular tourist destinations in the country, announcing new routes to Rhodes and Mykonos from June. Specifically, the first Gulf Air flight to Rhodes is scheduled for June 3, 2024.
A meeting between high-profile stakeholders, including Fraport, Asian tourism agents, and tour operators could take place in the immediate future, possibly in March, in Rhodes.
The recent official announcement by Gulf Air was an encouraging development for all Rhodes stakeholders, as it is seen as a significant initiative to boost local economic activity.
