The Greek Island of Crete was voted in the top 10 best of best destinations 2025 in the globally renowned travel website Tripadvisor’s “Travelers’ Choice Awards”, securing the 9th spot on the list.

The online travel platform, largely regarded as one of the most reliable sources for tourism information in the world, presented Crete, the largest island in Greece, as the birthplace of modern European civilization urging travelers to “Soak up the charming atmosphere of Chania Town’s Old Venetian Harbor or the fortresses and monasteries of Rethymnon.”

The short synopsis on the site praises the birthplace of the king of the mythological Olympian gods, Zeus, as the Mediterranean jewel lauding the island’s rich archaeological and mythological history that’s reflected in its ancient ruins and cultural attractions.

“The awesome Minoan ruins of Malia date to 1900 BC, and majestic Mt. Ida is said to be home to the cave where Zeus was born,” Tripadvisor notes.

The capital of Britain, London took the top spot on the top 10 best of the best destinations in 2025, followed by Bali in second place. Dubai was voted in 3rd, with Sicily and Paris rounding out the top five destinations in 4th and 5th, respectively.

Rome is the second Italian destination that made the top 10, coming in sixth, with Hanoi in Vietnam and Marrakech in Morocco edging out Cretein 7th and 8th spots, respectively.
