Intense rainfall from storm Elena in Greece's Attica region caused flooding, sewerage overflows, road closures, and renewed finger-pointing over the region's inability to manage heavy downpours.

Snowfalls are expected in several areas of Thrace, Macedonia, and Epirus, as the severe weather system "Elena" continues to bring strong winds, snow, and frost.

Rain, snow and cold are expected to set the wintery scene for most of Greece over the weekend as November comes to an end.

Temperatures are expected to drop abruptly from Saturday onwards as a cold front moves into Greece.

The weather will start to improve from the north during the weekend, as rain will gradually shift southward.  On Saturday, the eastern mainland and the Aegean will be most affected by the bad weather.

Meteorologists are warning that heavy rain expected in the coming hours may lead to flash floods in several areas in Western Greece.
