Greece imprisoned 9 migrants for over a year on trumped-up charges of smuggling in connection to the Pylos Shipwreck, says a special investigation by Solomon and ARIJ, and published by El País, Die Tageszeitung, and the New Humanitarian.
The Pylos shipwreck occurred just over a year ago off the coast of southwest Greece, and led to the deaths of anywhere between 82 and 650 irregular migrants
The trial has been dismissed on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction by the Kalamata judges
Separate investigations into the cause of the Pylos shipwreck are still underway by a criminal court in the city of Kalamata, a Hellenic Coast Guard's naval court and more recently by the Greek Ombudsman’s office
