The choice of Jan. 27 for the annual commemoration was chosen because it is the day that Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army in 1945.

Greece was represented by Deputy FM Tasos Chatzivasileiou, Amb. Chryssoula Aliferi, the ministry's special envoy for issues involving anti-semitism, and Daniel Benardout, representing the Central Jewish Council of Greece

On this solemn day, the international community remembers the victims, reflecting on the horrors of WWII and the genocide that targeted and decimated Jewish populations.
