In efforts to slash waiting lists, Mitsotakis said the Greek public will have access to 37,000 free evening surgeries as of Nov. 28.

Georgiadis acknowledged delays in the implementation of the 37,000 free afternoon surgeries, attributing them to the European elections, which unexpectedly impacted such matters.

Between 2020 and 2021, around 6.5% of Greeks were unable to cover their healthcare needs, compared to an EU average of about 2%, making it more than three times higher.

More than half of all Greeks are expressing dissatisfaction with the public and private health system marking a 21.2% rise over 2023.
