Outgoing president Zourabichvili says far-right successor Mikheil Kavelashvili is not the legitimate leader following controversial parliamentary vote

According to Reuters, Kavelashvili, a former soccer player and leader of the anti-Western People’s Power faction, was elected with overwhelming support from the Georgian Dream-dominated electoral college

According to Reuters, the protests outside the Parliament in Georgia saw demonstrators building barricades, breaking windows, and setting off fireworks. Riot police responded with water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
