A strong earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale occurred on Saturday afternoon in Thermos, 19km outside of Agrinio.

The massive earthquake hit Vanuatu's capital Port Vila on Tuesday, causing widespread damage and communications outages- at least one dead.

Smaller aftershocks followed in the same region, measuring 2.4, 1.8, 3.1, and 1.6 on the Richter scale.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake’s epicenter was located in the sea area 11 kilometers south of Nea Moudania, in Halkidiki.

The earthquake was felt throughout the entire island, especially in the Hania and Rethymno regions

Seismologists have cautioned that while the probability of another powerful earthquake has increased, it does not guarantee that one will occur.

The quake, which struck less than 20 miles from Miyazaki's coast, was initially estimated at 6.9 by the Meteorological Agency but was later updated to 7.1.
