As the government attempts to curb the proliferation of Airbnbs, an association of short-term rental companies has filed a complaint about new guidelines

This legislation will impose new obligations on property owners offering AirBnB-like leasing, mostly conditions related to health, safety and operational guidelines

Specifically, the minister announced a cruise passenger levy of 20 euros per person disembarking at the ports of Mykonos and Santorini, and 5 euros at other Greek ports, applicable from June 1 to Sept. 30.

Nearly 1 million beds were available for short-term rental in July in Greece thanks to strong tourist flows.

It ranked 8th regarding short-stay accommodations booked via online platforms - Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group, or TripAdvisor

This growth, averaging about 20,000 new units per month, pushed the total number of accommodations to 224,860 by June, up from 204,578 the previous year.

According to AirDNA, Mykonos is among the destinations propelling Greece into the upper echelons of Europe's most expensive countries for Airbnb stays.

Greek PM confirmed that new measures to address lack of housing and to regulate Airbnb-style activities were on the table.
