Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas fell to underdog Mattias Bellucci from Italy in the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open in straight sets (4-6, 2-6) on Friday evening.
Tsitsipas, standing 12th in ATP rankings has been experiencing a protracted slump in his form. The Greek player was unable to find any rhythm in the game, failing to capitalize on the 4 break points presented to him while winning a meager 45% on his second serve.
The Italian is proving to be a “giant slayer”, as the 23-year-old, who is currently ranked 93rd, disposed of world no. 7 Daniil Medvedev from Russia in the previous round (6-3, 6-7, 6-3).
In the semifinals of the Dutch tournament, Bellucci will face Australian Alex de Minaur, who earlier secured an easy victory over Daniel Altmaier.
After his win against Tsitsipas, the Italian is expected to make a significant jump in the world rankings, reaching No. 68 on Monday. His ranking could rise even further if he manages to defeat Alex de Minaur.
On the other hand, Stefanos Tsitsipas, with his two victories in the early rounds of the Rotterdam tournament and his presence in the quarterfinals, is set to climb two places in the rankings.
