Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas was back in winning ways after beating Italian Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-3 to advance to the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
The Greek, ranked 11th in the ATP Rankings, who was coming off two defeats in a row, was pushed to a first-set tie-break by the Italian.
The two held serve until the seventh game when Tsitsipas broke to go 5-3 up.
With a break in his hands, the 26-year-old held serve and closed out the set 6-3 to secure the victory and advance to the second round of the tournament.
Stefanos Tsitsipas will next face Karen Khachanov, who moved past Daniel Evans 6-1, 6-3 to snap a three-match losing streak and earn his first win against the British wild card.
