The stars of Greek sports shone once again this year at the 71st Awards Ceremony, honoring the top Greek athletes for 2024, with Miltos Tentoglou named the Top Athlete for the third consecutive time. The 71st Awards Ceremony, was one again organized by the Panhellenic Association of Sports Press (PSAT).
During the past season, Tentoglou won the gold medal in the long jump at the Paris Olympic Games, as well as gold medals at the World Indoor Athletics Championship in Glasgow and the European Championship in Rome. The award was received by his coach, Georgi Pomashki , as Tentoglou could not attend the ceremony.
The title of Top Female Athlete went to Evangelia Platanioti, an artistic swimming athlete and a world champion in the technical solo event, who was placed 6th alongside Sofia Malkogeorgou in the free routine of artistic swimming at the Paris Olympic Games.
The Piraeus football team of Olympiacos, following its historic journey to win the Conference League, was named the Top Team of 2024.
The title of Top Coach for this year was awarded to the Bulgarian born, Georgi Pomashki, the Greek track and field coach specializing in horizontal jumps, who for the past years has been coaching the gold medalist Miltos Tentoglou.
The gold Paralympic champion in the T11 100m athletics event in Paris, Thanasis Gavelas, alongside his guide Ioannis Nyfantopoulos, was named the Top Para Athlete.
In the women’s para athlete category, Alexandra Stamatopoulou topped the vote after winning gold in the 50m backstroke S4 category at the Paralympic Games.
Finally, the National Deaf Men’s Basketball Team was honored as the Top Para Team, having won the bronze medal at the European Championship in Malaga.
