Tsitsipas & Sakkari Move into Final 16 at Paris Olympics

Both won in straight sets

Greek tennis stars Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari advanced to the stage of the final 16 of the tennis tournament in the Paris 2024 Olympics after defeating their respective opponents in the round of 32.

Tsistipas beat Britain’s Daniel Evans in straight sets in just under an hour (6-1, 6-2). In the next round, he will face the winner between Sebastian Baez and Benjamin Hassan, with Baez being the clear favorite.

The Greek tennis player Tsitsipas cruised through his match, dropping only three games in a dominant 6-1, 6-2 performance. Tsitsipas used his solid serve, which was virtually unreturnable, to easily advance to the next round.

Maris Sakkari also prevailed in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) over China’s Yue Yuan. Her next obstacle in the Paris 2024 Olympics will be Marta Kostyuk, who earlier eliminated Clara Burel. This will be the fourth time Sakkari and Kostyuk face each other, with the Greek champion leading their head-to-head with 2-1 wins.

Sakkari won their first two matches, while Kostyuk prevailed in their last encounter, which was a year ago at Wimbledon. Notably, this will be their first clash on a clay surface.

In the previous round, Maria Sakkari achieved a comfortable victory against Montenegro’s Danka Kovinić with a 2-0 set score (6-0, 6-1) in the first round of the Olympic tennis tournament in Paris and on day 2 of the games.
