The Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games – the XXXIII Olympiad – has commenced with an first-ever “floating parade”, which begins at the at the Pont d’Austerlitz at 7:30 p.m. local time (17.30 GMT, 13:30 Eastern time) and continues west along the riverine route for six kilometers.

Its floats, presentations and parade of nations and flag-bearers is set to pass several Parisian landmarks including the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum, as well as historic sites such as the glass-roofed Grand Palais, all of which will serve as temporary venues for various Olympic competitions.

The Opening Ceremony parade will end at the Trocadero esplanade, near the Eiffel Tower, where the Olympic cauldron will be lit and the Paris 2024 Olympics officially declared open.

Thousands of athletes are taking part today in a floating parade on the Seine, culminating with a celebration near the Eiffel Tower. A massive police and military presence is plainly evident throughout the metropolis, news reports state.
