Paralympics: Greek Participation on First Day of Events

Today's roster for the Paralympics has 8 Greek athletes competing in three different sports

After the opening ceremony on Wednesday, the official first day of the 2024 Paralympics kicked off on Thursday morning.
A team of 37 athletes from Greece are at the French capital for the Paralympics and will be competing in 10 sports: swimming, athletics, Tae Kwon Do, shooting, archery, equestrian, cycling, weightlifting, judo and Boccia.
Today’s roster has 8 athletes who will be competing in three different sports.

The youngest Greek athlete, 12-year-old Areti Aravela Spyridou, will be the first among the 8 to compete in this year’s events. She will participate in the the 100m backstroke S2 at 11:20 am Greek time, aiming to qualify for the final at 7:10 pm Thursday evening.

Maria Fanouria Tziveleki, 14 years old, will compete in the 200m freestyle S5 at 12:38 pm. Should she qualify, her final is scheduled for 9:46 pm.

In the men’s 100m backstroke S1 final at 8:22 pm, Dimitris Karypidis and Nikolaos Kontou will both race for a chance at Greece’s first medal in these Paralympics.

Boccia events also begin today, with Chrysi Morfi-Metzou competing in the BC4 category against Croatia and Spain, while Grigoris Polychronidis and Anna Denta participating in the BC3 category.

Finally, Dorothea Poimenidou will be representing Greece in archery, the even of which will commence at 6pm.
