A team of 37 athletes from Greece are in the French capital for the opening ceremony tonight of the Paris Paralympics. Greek athletes will be competing in 10 sports: swimming, athletics, Tae Kwon Do, shooting, archery, equestrian, cycling, weightlifting, judo and Boccia.
Paris is once again in the international spotlight after hosting the ΧΧΧΙΙΙ Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11.
Paralympic athletes from Greece are ready to give their all and to inspire others to follow their dreams in tune with this year’s slogan: “Games Wide Open”.
Once again, Paris organizers said the opening ceremony will take place outside a stadium at the Place de la Concorde and some 4,000 athletes from 184 missions will be marching along the Champs Elysées. Events in the following days will be held at the Eiffel Tower, the Palace of Versailles and the Grand Palais, among others.
The Paralympic flame was lit last Saturday in the British town of Stoke Mandeville, where the Paralympics idea was born.
Greece’s Olympic team returned to Athens earlier in August with eight medals (one gold, 1 silver and six bronze) marking its 4th best performance to date.
