Panathinaikos FC on Tuesday evening officially announced the hiring of well-known veteran Turkish football coach Fatih Terim to replace Ivan Jovanović. The former is expected in Athens on Wednesday to sign a one-and-a-half-year deal to manage the “Greens”.

A very laconic “New chapter! Welcome to Panathinaikos @fatihterim” was the post on Panathinaikos Athens’ official X (formerly Twitter) account, with the sacking of Jovanovic and hiring of Terim dominating trends on the Greek-language social media platform for much of Tuesday.

More than 4,500 reposts, 3,100 comments and 31,000 favorites were listed below the relevant post on the club’s official X account alone by the evening, by both Greek and Turkish football fans.

Panathinaikos FC was recently knocked out of Europa League play and was bumped from the standings in the Greek Super League.
