The Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games commence on Friday, and the first contingent of Greek athletes departs today, Wednesday, July 24, 2024, for the French capital.

The initial group of the Greek delegation is departing from Athens International Airport, imbued with optimism and cheer, bound for the City of Light to deliver their utmost performance. Early photographs reveal that all members are poised to engage in the world’s foremost athletic spectacle, their excitement evident in their expressions.

It is important to highlight that the Olympic Games will officially commence on Friday, July 26, with an anticipatedly splendid “Opening Ceremony.” NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, alongside esteemed race walker Antigoni Drisbioti, will jointly bear the Greek flag during the inaugural ceremony in Paris. This year’s Games will span from July 26 to August 11.

Notably, certain sports will commence ahead of the official opening, including football and rugby sevens, which begin today, July 24, and archery and handball, which start on July 25. The extensive multisport event will unfold over a 19-day period, showcasing a diverse array of athletic competitions.

Today’s departing Greek athletes include the National Men’s and Women’s Water Polo teams.

Furthermore, the first group of the Greek delegation features members of the swimming team, along with track and field athletes Antigoni Drisbioti, Emmanouil Karalis, Ariadni Adamopoulou, and Eleni Polak.

The contingent is further augmented by judokas Elisavet Teltsidou and Theodoros Tselidis, as well as fencer Theodora Gkountoura (Dora Goudoura).
