Olympiacos FC demolished a surprising weak AEK Athens FC club 6-0 on Wednesday evening in the first leg for the Greek Cup semi-finals at the former’s Karaiskakis Stadium.

The “thumping”, by all accounts, means that the Piraeus side will be in the Greek Cup final.

The match was expected to be a derby, given that AEK is behind league-leader Olympiacos by two points in the Super League standings, with the two teams again locking horns on Sunday at AEK’s Nea Philadelphia Stadium in a match that will who’ll be first and second heading into the play-offs.

Cameroon defender Harold Moukoudi’s own-goal in the 8^th minute put up the home side on the board. Andre Horta doubled the “Reds” lead in the 19^th minute, followed by two goals by Roman Yaremchuk in the 22^nd and 53^rd minutes. Luis Palma scored the third goal in the 47^th minute, with top goal-scorer Ayoub El Kaabi closing out the scoring in the 78^th minute.

AEK’s more ambitious attempt to recover was a disqualified goal due to an off-side.
