Olympiacos FC demolished a surprising weak AEK Athens FC club 6-0 on Wednesday evening in the first leg for the Greek Cup semi-finals at the former’s Karaiskakis Stadium.
The “thumping”, by all accounts, means that the Piraeus side will be in the Greek Cup final.
The match was expected to be a derby, given that AEK is behind league-leader Olympiacos by two points in the Super League standings, with the two teams again locking horns on Sunday at AEK’s Nea Philadelphia Stadium in a match that will who’ll be first and second heading into the play-offs.
Cameroon defender Harold Moukoudi’s own-goal in the 8th minute put up the home side on the board. Andre Horta doubled the “Reds” lead in the 19th minute, followed by two goals by Roman Yaremchuk in the 22nd and 53rd minutes. Luis Palma scored the third goal in the 47th minute, with top goal-scorer Ayoub El Kaabi closing out the scoring in the 78th minute.
AEK’s more ambitious attempt to recover was a disqualified goal due to an off-side.
