European basketball powerhouses Olympiacos and Panathinaikos are on course to clash in the Greek Cup final as they are heavy favorites to eliminate Thessaloniki’s PAOK and Patras’ Promitheas Patras, respectively in the competition’s semi-finals today.
The semi-finals of the Greek Cup are scheduled to take place in Heraklion, Crete on Friday, February 14, 2025. Panathinaikos will suit up against Promitheas at 5 pm local time, while their “eternal rivals” Olympiacos will face PAOK at 8.15 pm local time for a berth in the final to be played on Sunday, February 16.
The two basketball giants, who have 10 Euroleague titles between them (Pana has 7 and Olympiacos 3), have the lion’s share in the second-most prestigious domestic competition, with the Greens having won a total of 20 titles, while the Reds have 12 Cups in their trophy room.
In their head-to-head since 2022, Olympiacos has the edge over Pana in the competition having eliminated the Greens on 6 occasions in single matches.
Reigning Greek league champions Panathinaikos AKTOR will travel to Crete to play against Promitheas without their two key big men, Mathias Lessort and Omer Yurtseven who are both on the injured list for some time now, while the team recently let go of Kostas Antetokounmpo.
Olympiacos, who are the defending Cup holders and have won it for the last three seasons, are currently sitting at the top of the Euroleague. In their semi-final match, the Reds will be missing Keenan Evans, Moses Wright, and Luca Vildoza.
In the quarter finals Panathinaikos blew past Peristeri (93-63) and Olympiacos downed Karditsa (71-54).
