After a stunning away win at Anfield last September, a formidable Nottingham Forest FC side refused to yield to Liverpool at City Ground, holding the league leaders to a 1-1 draw and nearly coming away with the win.

Liverpool may be this season’s big favorite for the Premier League title, but the ‘Reds’ again failed to beat Nottingham Forest. After Nuno’s side’s spectacular away win in the first round 0-1, Nottingham again stood tall against the league leaders, as the two sides drew 1-1 (see highlights here) in week 21.

As a result, Liverpool maintained their six-point lead over second-place Nottingham, who have won six games in a row in league competition but have played one match more.

The home team played better in the first half when it took the lead, while the visitors were better in the second half when they scored a goal from an assist by Tsimikas, but couldn’t get the win because of great interventions by Forest keeper Matz Sels.

On the first chance of the game Nottingham were fortunate to take the lead in a way they know better than any other team at the moment in the Premier League. A quick transition, a terrific pass from Elanga to Wood, who finished brilliantly to make it 1-0.

Two minutes later Nottingham came close to making it 2-0, but Murillo’s terrific shot was just wide of the net.

Allison barely cleared an Elanga foul in 63rd minute, with Liverpool manager Arne Slott putting Tsimikas and Jota in the match in the 66th minute.

Seconds later the former executed a corner and the latter headed the ball into the net to make it 1-1.

Sels made a huge save in the 69th minute against a Jota shot and in the 88th minute he also said “no” to Mohamed Salah, while also staving off another two serious threats by Liverpool’s strikers before full time.
