The Greek athletics team has departed for the Netherlands without their star long jumper, Miltos Tentoglou, ahead of the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships, which are set to begin on March 6 in Apeldoorn.

Tentoglou, a two-time Olympic champion in the long jump, is currently battling the flu. Despite his determination to compete, his ongoing illness has prevented him from recovering in time for the prestigious indoor event. After careful consideration, he and his coach, Giorgos Pomaski, in consultation with the medical team of the Greek Athletics Federation, made the decision for Tentoglou to remain in Greece and not travel with the rest of the team.

The athlete has emphasized that his primary focus is on making a full recovery so that he is in peak condition for the upcoming 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships, scheduled to take place from March 21-23 in Nanjing, China. Tentoglou’s decision to withdraw from the European Championships reflects his commitment to long-term success and ensuring that he is fully prepared for the world stage.

Tentoglou’s absence leaves a significant gap in the Greek athletics delegation, but his decision to prioritize his health highlights the athlete’s professional approach to his career and future competitions.

Meanwhile, fellow Greek athlete Emmanouil Karalis, who remains in Athens, will fly to the Netherlands on March 6, with hopes of claiming his first gold medal at this prestigious event.
