The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) has named pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis, Greece’s bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and artistic swimmer Evangelia Platanioti as the flag-bearers for the nation at the Closing Ceremony of the XXXIII Olympiad on Sunday evening.

Karalis secured his bronze in the pole vault final, while Platanioti, alongside her partner Sofia Malkogeorgou, achieved a 6th-place finish in the women’s duet free artistic swimming event on Saturday.

The duo impressed with a routine featuring the highest degree of difficulty (60.200) among the 17 competing pairs, replicating their technical prowess from the previous day.

With a total score of 532.3002 points, Platanioti and Malkogeorgou earned Greece its best ranking in Olympic artistic swimming since the 1992 Barcelona Games.

The Closing Ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 pm Greek time on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Stade de France. Greece’s Team Hellas will depart from Paris on Monday, with an expected arrival in Athens just after 5:00 pm.
