Greek tennis star Maria Sakkari will be collaborating with a new coach after she surprisingly decided to part ways with her long-term coach and friend Tom Hill ahead of the Indian Wells tournament.
With other tournaments approaching closer, she found a replacement, which according to reports will be Amercian David Witt, the former coach of Jessica Pegula, who was released after the Australian Open.
While there were no public comments made by Pegula on the reason for firing her coach, it gave Sakkari the chance to hire the former coach of Venus Wiliams.
Despite Sakkari’s – ranked 9th in the ATP – multiple title wins and a good run, the Greek tennis star split with her British coach, but only on good terms.
New Start
The Greek did not have much success in the last few tournaments, as she failed to win any titles in the tournaments she took part in, resulting in the termination of her contract with Hill. Under her new coach, Maria Sakkari is looking to bring forward her new self at the BNP Paribas Open, starting today at Indian Wells in California. This will be the first time Witt will be sitting in the box of Sakkari.
Witt has helped Williams win many tournaments, and Pegula to rise from World No. 80 to the top five. Sakkari, who is looking for a “reset”, hopes to find luck in some change, in the form of a new coach.
