The Greek national football team opened its UEFA Nations League campaign with a perfect record, beating Finland (home) and Ireland (away) with a clean sheet.

The team defeated Finland 3-0 in their return to the “Georgios Karaiskakis” Stadium, followed by a 2-0 win against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium. As a result, they climbed six places in the world rankings, gaining 13.23 points from the two victories, bringing their total to 1,469.18 points.

Under the tutelage of its new manager, Ivan Jovanovic, the Greek team has climbed from 54th to 48th in the world rankings, which means it may get a more favorable draw for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

The Greek football team moved up to the 25th spot in the European rankings, placing it on the verge of being promoted to the second seeding group for the World Cup qualifiers, especially since Russia remains excluded from international competitions.

The Greek team will travel to England for their next match, where they will play against one of the favorites of the tournament, who reached two Euro Championship finals in a row. Both Greece and England are tied on points with a perfect record at the top of the table, with Greece having a one-goal advantage sitting at the top.
