Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis made history on Sunday at the Silesia Diamond League competition, as the first Greek to ever break the 6m mark in competition.

His accomplishment was applauded by the Hellenic Olympic Committee in a post on X, which shows his accomplishment and notes that the previous record of 5.93m was also set by Karalis last June.

The competition also saw a new world record and the top three men in the category all cleared the 6m mark.

Mondo Duplantis, the gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Games, and arguably the best pole vaulter in history, broke the world record he set at the recent Games with a new jump of 6.26m.

American Sam Kendrick, who won silver in the Olympics, and Karalis both made pole jumps of 6m.

Recall that recently, at the Paris Olympics, the Greek pole vaulter brought home a bronze medal for his country, and was also a flag-bear at the closing ceremony.

Karalis is from the Greek region of Pyrgos, and was born from a Greek father and Ugandan mother. He won the silver medal at the 2019 and 2021 European Athletics U23 Championships, and placed fourth at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
