Significant traffic modifications are in place as the 41st Athens Marathon. The Authentic is set to kick off Sunday. Central roads have be closed off since 5 am, and public transport routes will be adjusted to accommodate the event.
Marathon Route Area (5 am – 5:45 pm)
- Marathon Avenue and surrounding areas will be closed to traffic for the marathon route.
Main Road Closures (5 am – 1 pm)
- Akadimias Avenue: Full closure, including all side streets.
- Vasilissis Amalias Avenue: Closed in both directions along with all side streets.
- Syngrou Avenue: Closed from Frantzi Street to Vasilissis Amalias Avenue, affecting both directions and side streets.
- Athanasios Diakou Avenue: Closed in both directions and all side streets.
- Other Closures: Portions of Ilioupoleos, Kareas, Filellinon, Stadiou, Eleftheriou Venizelou (Panepistimiou), Charilaou Trikoupi, and Riga Feraiou streets will also be restricted.
Extended Closures (5 am- 6:30 pm)
- Vasileos Konstantinou Avenue: Full closure in both directions and all side streets.
- Ardittou Street: Complete closure in both directions.
- Additional Closures: Vasilissis Sofias, Rizari, Vasilis Georgiou B’ Street, Meleagrou, and Kleanthous streets will also be affected.
Further Closures (6 am – 6:30 pm)
- Mesogeion Avenue: Closed from Katehaki Avenue to the Athens Tower, in both directions and side streets.
- Kifisias Avenue, Alexandra Avenue, and Michalakopoulou Avenue: Partial closures in affected sections and directions.
Public Transport Modifications
To support the event’s operations and ensure passenger safety, several adjustments have been made to public transport in the greater Athens area. Specifially:
- Metro: The first metro service will start at 5:00 am instead of the usual 5:30 am.
- Buses and Trolleys: Numerous routes have been modified since Friday, until 10 pm on Sunday, based on traffic police instructions.
