The platform, which enables 200,000 of Greece’s eligible youth to obtain 150 euros in financial support in the form of a pre-paid card, known as the ‘Youth Pass’, opens today.
Eligible youth must be tax residents of Greece, have had their 18th or 19th birthday between January 1-December 31, 2021, and submit an application for the Pass at vouchers.gov.gr between today and December 5, 2023. Upon submitting their applications, youth should expect to receive an email or sms text will a link to activate their card.
The Youth Pass can be redeemed at companies offering services related to culture, tourism and transportation. For example, youth can use the funds on accommodation, theater tickets, the purchase of books, and charges related to taxis, buses, trains, ferries, airline tickets and car or boat rental. A full list of eligible services can be found at the website link above which is also the gateway to applying for the card.
Applicants who are 18 years old this year do not need to reapply next year for an additional 150 euros as the card will renew itself automatically.
The public should note that from 2024, the application period will permanently change and run from April 1 until May 15, with the annual payment of 150 euros being implemented by May 31.
Greece initiated a form of the Youth Pass, formerly known as a ‘Freedom Pass’, in 2021 as an incentive for youth to get vaccinated against Covid-19 in exchange for spending money for summer vacations.
