According to reports from To Vima, the fire started on Sunday around 11:00 am in a densely forested area and raged throughout the night.

The victims, aged 35 and 40, tragically lost their lives while trying to help a friend who was attempting to save his sheep.

The men had been missing since Sunday and were later found burned to death.

More than 300 firefighters battled the blaze on Sunday night, supported by 59 vehicles.

On Sunday, 13 aircraft and helicopters were deployed, with operations set to resume at day break.

As of Monday morning, there is no longer an active fire front, but firefighters remain at the scene battling scattered hotspots.

The Civil Protection Authority of Greece warns that several regions of Greece are at a high risk of fires on Monday.
