A missing WW2 plane of the Greek Airforce was discovered 77 years after it crashed in Drama, in the eastern regional unit of Thrace and Macedonia.

According to public broadcaster ERT, the plane was spotted by a group of three individuals who started planning their operation to search for the missing aircraft after hearing about the WW2 plane.

According to ERT, the final search effort began in mid-June. After 12 hours of continuous communication via wireless, the three individuals located the aircraft in a ravine, surrounded by dense forest. The fuselage was in relatively good condition.

There are small pieces of the WW2 plane scattered around the area which the Greek army is expected to collect to shed light on what led to the crash 70 years ago.

From the information gathered so far, it is still unclear whether the aircraft crashed due to weather conditions, pilot error, mechanical failure, or if it was shot down during battles. Additionally, details about the weapons used, the origin of the aircraft, and information about the deceased relatives are not mentioned.

Any talks about the prospect of turning the area into a tourist attraction will most likely be ruled out as it is the only virgin forest in Greece.
