Many archaeological sites and museums throughout Greece will stay closed today, July 25, until noontime due to a work stoppage by archaeological guards, says AMNA.
The work stoppage has been organized by the Panhellenic Union of Employees for the Protection of Antiquities and impacts both museums and archaeological sites in the country.
The Acropolis and all archaeological sites and museums that operate with electronic ticketing will remain closed.
The union is protesting the outsourcing of visitor entry control at the Acropolis to a private company.
The stoppage affects all archaeological sites: under the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Athens, the National Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki, the archaeological site of Knossos, the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, the archaeological site and museum of Ancient Olympia, the archaeological site and museum of Mycenae, the Asclepius Sanctuary at Epidaurus, the archaeological site and museum of Delphi, and the Palace of the Grand Master.
