Weather in Greece: September Kicks-off with More Rain

The weather in Greece will kick-off the new month with more rain, clouds, and even storms in many regions of the country.

Temporary clouds are expected in the northern regions and the Aegean, and with thunderstorms in the early morning hours in the Sporades and Evia. Meanwhile light rain is expected in the interior of Crete and the Ionian Sea.

In the afternoon and evening, local showers will occur in the Ionian, western, central, and southern mainland, with thunderstorms in the corresponding mountainous areas. During the evening, the weather will improve in most areas, and the night will be clear.

The temperature will begin an upward trend, reaching 32-33°C in the mainland by noon and 29-31°C as the maximum temperatures on our islands.

Winds will blow from the north. In the Ionian, they will be mild, at 2-4 Beaufort, and in the Aegean, slightly stronger, up to 5, locally 6 Beaufort.

In Attica, partly cloudy skies are expected until the afternoon, with intervals of sunshine in between. There is a slight chance of drizzle or light local rain in the northern and eastern parts of the region, and the weather will be clear by evening. The temperature will range from 23-33°C, with northerly winds at 3-5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort temporarily at midday in the eastern parts.

In Thessaloniki, there will be sunshine with intermittently increased clouds. In the afternoon, local showers and rain are expected in the surrounding mountainous areas. The temperature will range from 23-32°C, with light northerly winds at 2-3 Beaufort.

The Week Ahead

The first week of September will have more summery conditions. On Monday, the weather will generally be clear, with temporary clouds. In the afternoon and evening, instability will remain, but to a lesser degree, with showers in the mainland mountains during midday and afternoon hours. The temperature will rise further at midday, ranging around 32-35°C. Winds will be westerly and northerly at 2-4, and up to 5 Beaufort in the Dodecanese.

On Tuesday, although the day will start with plenty of sunshine, it will gradually become cloudy, and by midday, local showers will develop in the central and southern mainland and thunderstorms in the corresponding mountainous areas, with improvement by the evening. The temperature will range around 33-36°C in the mainland and up to 32°C in the Aegean. Northerly winds will blow at 3-4, and 5-6 Beaufort in the eastern Aegean.
