 Hot, dry and windy conditions in Greece today raise the risk of fires

Expect hot and dry weather today with strong winds across the country, increasing the risk of wildfires. The weather will be clear with sunshine and some scattered clouds in the western and northern regions by noon.

Temperatures will rise slightly, remaining above the seasonal average for another day. Expect highs up to 39°C in western Greece and up to 36°C in northern and eastern mainland regions.

Due to the strong Meltemi winds, temperatures in the Aegean will be slightly lower compared to western Greece. Highs will range from 35°C to 36°C, with cooler conditions expected in the Cyclades and northern coastal areas of Crete, where temperatures will be around 29°C and 32°C, respectively.

Winds will blow from the north, ranging from 3 to 5 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea and up to 6, locally reaching 7 Beaufort, in the Aegean Sea.

In Attica, expect clear skies and sunshine throughout the day. Temperatures will range from 24°C to 36°C, with maximum midday temperatures 3 to 4 degrees lower in the eastern and northern parts of the region due to strong northern winds blowing at 6 to 7 Beaufort in surrounding coastal areas.

Similarly, in Thessaloniki, sunshine and some scattered clouds are expected at noon. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 34°C, with southern winds in Thermaikos Gulf blowing at 2 to 4 Beaufort.
